Old school wood craftsman..

As written earlier, I have been plagued by my two storage drawers under my bench not only staying latched but also coming off their rails! And I can’t take them out to repair them because we had a bit of a design flaw and made the drawers 2” too deep so that once they are in, they are in! There isn’t enough space between the bench and the opposing kitchen cabinet module. It seems that it could be a complicated and expensive fix. But…..you know, I thought, Homer may be just the place to find someone who can do the job. And it was!! Jack Hamlick, just the best. His small jammed-packed jumbled Alaskan grown wood workshop sits off the side of the road. Jack is quite the character. Probably in his 70’s. He makes custom cabinets but his workshop is so small that he can only assemble the cabinets once on site at the client’s house. At only $35 an hour, he was able to cut to notches on either side so the drawer could be extricated and viola! Done! Then the other tricky part of replacing the latches with what was on there originally was left up to me. After a day & half (duh!!!), I finally got the drawers working and staying latched. Thank goodness! Now when I get back to Texas in the fall, Erik will take the drawers out again to properly tidy things up.
