Great Falls: Lewis & Clark…badass dudes..

Great Falls was a cool little town! A sparkling golden autumn lined the river walk park where we street parked for 2 nights. In between we took a day to clean up & stock up: car wash, laundromat & supermarket. Then a nice long hike along the Missouri River in the Giant Springs State Park imagining Lewis & Clark in 1804 on their expedition having to portage very rugged terrain for 18 miles (!) around the 5 falls. They had to portage 6 dugout heavy wooden boats and baggage. The portage required four round trips and two weeks to complete. It was epic. Great Falls was a pleasant, beautiful wind down from our push across Canada. Now on to Yellowstone and the Tetons!
